Preserving our Heritage for the Community

St Monans Auld Kirk Enterprise (SMAKE) is a dedicated community organisation, formed in 2024, committed to preserving the rich history and heritage of the Auld Kirk in St Monans and making sure it remains open to everyone. As custodians of this historic landmark, our mission is to celebrate its cultural significance, ensure its preservation for future generations, and create a space where the community and visitors can come together and connect with its legacy.

Our Acquisition: A New Chapter

SMAKE is currently in the process of acquiring the Auld Kirk, with the aim of completing the acquisition in 2025. This milestone represents a collective effort to protect this historic site and ensure its continued role as a place of inspiration, learning, and community engagement.

Thanks to the support of local residents, generous donors, and dedicated volunteers, we now embark on a journey to breathe new life into the Kirk while honouring its past.

Our Journey So Far

Since 2022 when the Church of Scotland shared its plans to sell The Auld Kirk, we have made significant progress towards purchasing it for the community.

Thanks to funding from The Architectural Heritage Fund, The Scottish Land Fund, other funders, donors and local business, we have now have a full business plan, architectural concept and costed surveys for the repairs.

The next step is gathering community support through membership to allow us to move forward with obtaining funding to purchase The Kirk.
