The Auld Kirk is an iconic venue situated on the edge of the rugged Fife coast, weathering storms over the centuries and guiding fishing boats back to safe harbours. It has been a place of worship since 1327and has witnessed the most important life events of generations of villagers. It is beautiful, historic and spiritual.
A glamorous history
This majesty has not escaped the notice of film makers, with the Kirk appearing in several shows such as ‘The Railwayman’, the new ‘Whisky Galore’ and ‘Lockerbie: A Search for Truth’. Notably, Johnny Cash was filmed singing Christmas carols at the Kirk with local school children in 1981.
With the Kirk moving to a new phase of use, soon to be owned by the local community, we are delighted to be able to host weddings here for all faiths and none. Please get in touch to discuss current availability.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I get married at the St Monans Auld Kirk?
Yes! There are limited opportunities to use the Kirk for weddings until approximately winter 2027, when the refurbishment work is due to start pending funding. Following this upgrading work, the building will re-open with enhanced facilities (including kitchen and additional WCs) in 2029.
What services and facilities will be available?
Prior to upgrades (planned for 2028-29), until we are fully functioning in 2029, the Kirk is offered as a venue-only space hire. There is one WC available, reached via a staircase. If you would like to visit, or learn more about rates, please contact us.
Do you have a minister or celebrant to take the wedding ceremony?
The building will be deconsecrated so you are welcome to arrange your own minister or celebrant, of any faith or none.
How much will it cost?
A price will be available on enquiry – please contact us.
How far ahead can I book?
You can currently book up to one year in advance, whilst we develop plans for future upgrades. Please get in touch to discuss availability.
Are there venues for a wedding reception and is there nearby accommodation?
There is hotel, B&B and self catering accommodation throughout the East Neuk. Within St Monans there are several halls and other venues, within walking distance of the Kirk, available for hire for a wedding reception – and other alternatives elsewhere in the East Neuk.
Is the Kirk available for other life events like christenings, baptisms and funerals?
